The union of science and aesthetics inspired the design for a landmark urban patisserie. Interior and exterior uses of steel, aluminum, glass, and wood abstracted the physics of the high art of French baking. The façade is screened by perforated steel with macro-sized “molecular” ovals, a nod to the elemental interactions of heat, yeast, and moisture. The façade itself is a wide glass pivot door, opening to an extravagant display of cakes and the café beyond. The goal of sensory and tactile stimulation is achieved, a fitting precursor to indulgence.
