we believe that architecture is a conversation
that exceptional design happens
through inquisitive exchange
between client and architect
building and landscape
amongst teams, makers, thinkers
room
table
chair
materials and light
conversation holds the power to transform
to surpass expectation
it’s the moment of moving through a doorway
over a threshold
from one space into another when
sensation
minds
cultures
selves
memory
tone
this is how we build things
meet
that matter
Our Studio
Each of us at Luce is the sum of a ‘whole’, and when we collaborate, the studio becomes ‘more’. By emphasizing conversation, it enables us to share the values of our profession; distinguishing architecture from building. Our studio curates culture, supporting storytelling in all forms; through architecture, art, writing, craft, furniture and even shared meals! We share curiosity and eagerness to seek authenticity. We uncover and honour a project’s narrative; that’s our shared core value. We feel like a beacon for beauty & creative expression.
At LUCE, we seek to be all these things, at once, in good measure. To create a project with meaning and purpose, we compose a strong narrative for clients and their team to be inspired by. We are ‘directors’, humbly stewarding our collaborators to their fullest potential.
The one constant in all of our work is the importance of the story, and how to tell it.
We come from Toronto, Montreal, Detroit, Leuven, Manchester, Tijuana, Tucson and San Diego and we work together from our inspiring studio in La Jolla, California.

Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that our studio sits on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Kumeyaay Nation. We extend our respect and gratitude to the Kumeyaay people who have lived here since time immemorial.
We recognize their tremendous contributions to our region and thank them for their stewardship.
We also recognize both the Kanien’kehá:ka, “Mohawk,” and the Anishinabeg, “Algonquin,” peoples. Tiohtiá:ke, Montreal, is historically known as a gathering place for diverse First Nations; thus, we recognize and deeply appreciate the historic and ongoing Indigenous connections to and presence on these lands and waters. We aspire to continue the responsibility to be stewards of this one Earth, taking care of the environment all around us.
We support community efforts to sustain a relationship with Indigenous peoples based on respect, dignity, trust, and cooperation, in the process of advancing truth, reconciliation and justice.
