The design, a meditation on privacy, conveyed the owners’ personal priorities: landscape, food, art, and family. Two offset volumes, accented by carefully proportioned apertures, opened to the landscape without the risk of overexposure or loss of privacy. The entry door, a stainless steel sliding wall, references both a portal and protective shield. Inside, floors of plate steel meet textured walls of hemlock. A serious commercial kitchen runs the full length, used every day as the hearth for family. The expansive living space is dominated by a folding window system that opens to the intimate gardens and ocean views.
