Set in an historic mid-century Modernist building, this 1,700 sf residence is a retreat for contemporary art. The design respects the provenance of the architecture while creating a setting befitting contemporary life. The architect worked closely with the client to site their collection, which has a foundation In works of the light and space mid-century movement in California. A suite of subtle and thoughtful materials include angel-hair stainless steel, natural concrete, stone, and pale stained woods. The purposeful austerity showcased the art collection and successfully integrates its ephemeral powers into the flow of daily life.
